Unshu mikan
Available delivery date | November 10, 2024 to end December |
Unshu mikan is a citrus fruit more commonly known as "satsuma orange”or “satsuma mandarin”. It is one of Japan's most popular mandarins because it is sweet, easy to peel and is low in acidity. It has few or no seeds, making it easy to eat.
The term "unshu" refers to Wenzhou in Zhejiang Province, China, a place known for citrus production while mikan is the Japanese equivalent for “mandarin orange”. Despite its name, unshu mikan is native to Japan, and is often associated with winter in Japan, the season when mikan is enjoyed. The image of eating mikan around a heated table is iconic in Japanese culture. Major production areas for unshu mikan include the warm, coastal regions of Japan.
Our Mikan from Yahho Farm has a beautiful balance of sweetness and sourness. Once you try one, you will be hooked and want to keep eating them.
You may find Eureka lemons from Yahho Farm in the box as a small gift during season.
The best way to store and taste mikan: store in a cool, well-ventilated place. If you are storing in a box, remember to eat the mikan at the bottom first!
Please note that the shapes and size may vary.
